Is Metabolic Acidosis genetic?

On 11/19/07 my husband and I had a seemingly healthy baby girl. On 11/30/07 our world crumbled to the ground as we held her in our arms and she silently ped away after a 7 day battle that ended with the autopsy result of “Infant had a Metabolic inborn error-- Metabolic Acidosis”. We want to have another baby but I cannot do that if this is something we together caused and gave her. Please help.
