Does Turkey feel close proximity to Arab Nations or European Nations in terms of culture?

Historically and culturally they have been more close to Arabs than Europe. Ataturk was a visionary who wanted them to adopt western ways and traditions. Right now they are a strange mixture of East and West, though some hardliner Islamists are trying to bring Sharia Laws like wearing of headscarves. That's pity.
