Should I adopt another cat?

My family lives in a fairly rural neighborhood. In our backyard, we are growing several fruits and vegetables. The only problem is that they are being eaten by squirrels and other pests! Our dogs go outside from time to time which keeps the squirrels at bay; however, they tend to trample the garden they're watching. Lol I love those two. And they have to be on a restraint, so there is always a chance the squirrels can get around them. I have an indoor cat and my father has made it very clear that there is to be no more pets in the house. But I was thinking about getting another cat to live outside. That would regulate the amount of pests in the garden. One of my neighbors has an outside cat and he seems to be fairing just fine. There are no major roads close to my home and the only people that drive on my road are the 8 of us that live on it. We know everybody and they are very careful about driving down the road because all of us have pets, kids, or both. Should I adopt a cat for outside? He/she could stay in the insulated garage if it was too cold etc..
